"Last week, I called your company to request advice on which dictionaries would be most useful to my daughter who is in middle school. I explained to you her problem of not applying new words in her writing, probably due to a lack of understanding how to use the word in a sentence. You kindly assisted me with information regarding various dictionaries and I would like to write you a letter thanking you for your help. Also I would like to give you my impression of the dictionaries that you recommended.
First, you recommended the Collins COBUILD 4th Edition Advanced Learning Dictionary. It shows so many example sentences to assist in my daughter's ability to actually comprehend the meaning and learn to apply the word, not just memorize the word and definition. We are impressed with this dictionary and it's useful CD which was included.
Secondly, you recommended the MACMILLAN Advanced Learner Dictionary. The definitions are simply stated and this dictionary does give some example sentences. Due to it's simplicity, I think it accompanies the Collins COBUILD dictionary very well. If a word is unclear to us or we need further reading, it is just perfect.
Thank you for your time, advice and especially for showing an interest in my daughter's problem of needing to mature her vocabulary in writing. These dictionaries are unlike any I have ever seen and it will be fun to watch her progress!
Thanks again for your leadership in education and for the excellent job you did processing my order, combining shipping and being sure my shipment went out quickly."
Sincerely,
M B M, Elm City, North Carolina"
