Oxford English Dictionary, OED, Version 2.0
Free patch to allow use with Windows XPPlease note: These instructions are for the version 2.0 product. Version 2.0 is no longer the current version. If you use version 2.0 frequently you may want to upgrade to version 3.0 for the following reasons:
- It installs to disk as part of the normal installation process.
- It does not require you to verify the CD every time you start it the way version 2.0 does. Instead you only have to do this every 90 days.
- It also has better search capabilities.
- It includes the three addendum volumes.
- Nicer interface.

You can patch your OED right away and don't have to wait. We have provided the patch on-line as a service to our customers!
Here is a letter of explanation we obtained from Oxford University Press Technical Support. My thanks to Oxford University Press for allowing us to provide this patch on-line.
Please print this page and then download the patch.
Please down load the patch using the link below to your hard drive, and then use WinZip to
extract the contained files into a new temporary folder on your desktop.
WinZip is a downloadable utility that allows files to be compressed and sent
over the Internet. If you do not already have WinZip installed on your
machine, please go here to download the latest version:
http://www.winzip.com/downauto.cgi?winzip80.exe. Complete the download and
follow the onscreen directions to install.
After extracting the OEDXP.ZIP file into the new folder, run the file
named CDSET32.EXE to perform the update, and restart Windows when this has
completed. |
Once this is done the OED will run in native mode with out setting the compatibility mode to emulate any previous windows versions.
