Computer Technical Tip:
English Characters not displaying correctly on
non-English Windows Operating SystemsWhen the some Foreign Language versions of Windows (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) are installed the English characters(Roman letters) have been reported not to display correctly for the Collins Cobuild products and the Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.
The following fixes the problem.
The steps below have you back up the Registry before you start. Please do so. If you do get into trouble you can restore your computer in Safe Mode and restore the register. Making changes to the Windows Registry can be hazardous and could result in serious problems preventing Windows 95/98/ME/2000&XP from running properly. We cannot accept liability for any adverse effects resulting from changes to the Windows registry. They are undertaken entirely at your own risk but if you back up the registry your risk is minimal.
- Right click on Start
- Right click on Run
- Type Regedit.exe
- Right click on Registry
- Right click on export. (note the file name and path)
- Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Double-click on System
- Double-click on CurrentControlSet
- Double-click on Control
- Double-click on fontassoc
- Double-click on AssociatedCharSet
- Change the item ANSI(00) from Yes to No
- Exit Windows and reboot your PC
